04 Jun Concours de poésie
Poetry is certainly on the agenda this term and this time it was French poetry that took centre stage – in the school’s old theatre, the salle Werner. This was no less than the 31st edition of the competition where students of all ages and abilities – from French beginners in the Juniors to mother tongue speakers at the bac – write their own poem. One of the interesting aspects of the competition is how the students’ entries begin with the Juniors’ simple love of the sounds of the French language and its multiple rhyming possibilities and then move on to emotional depth and personal insight. The theatre was packed to the rafters and the whole was enlivened by interludes of poems read, chanted or illustrated by the students of different classes. The Grand Prix will be announced at the Graduation ceremony.
