12 Nov Le Malade Imaginaire
On 5 November, Le Rosey’s “journée de la Francophonie” – a day dedicated to French language and culture – finished as it should with a play by Molière. The Théâtre du Petit Monde, an excellent Parisian company, performed Le Malade Imaginaire, recounting the confusions and conflicts of one of Molière most memorable monomaniacs, the hypochondriacal Argan. This 1673 piece turned out to be a rip-roaring Comédie-Ballet, packed with laugh-out-loud moments, especially in this vibrant production where the world of Louis XIV costumes, humour and situations was enlivened by some highly imaginative modern touches! Who would have imagined Capoeira in 17th-century France, for example?
