20 Oct L’Ile de la Harpe Challenge
Our oldest défi consists of diving into icy cold water on the Rolle waterfront and swimming about 100 metres to the picturesque artificial island created in 1837. It’s not far but the temperature of the water normally turns it into a real physical and mental challenge. This year, however, the exceptionally mild weather meant that the 100 or so participants had a pleasant early-evening swim, sharing Lake Geneva with its swans — somewhat surprised, no doubt, at the youngsters’ good humour, and no doubt confident that the 2017 version would take place in water with a temperature much closer to 10°C!
