Le Rosey promotes the development of all students’ talents.
These extremely diverse activities include more than one hundred options, provided by professionals. Great care is taken over the quality, balance and safety of these programmes, which form a coherent whole for each Rosey student. These programmes have four cardinal points, summarised by the CASC acronym:
Creativity: arts
The world of arts unites demanding teaching and constant practice. Shows, festivals, exhibitions and external examinations allow students to set goals, measure progress and take pride in displaying their talents.
Action: sports
In the world of sport, we measure ourselves and others. From beginners to experienced competitors, everyone gets to know their body better and benefits from team spirit. Le Rosey participates in all inter-school competitions and requires its students to participate in expedition programmes, where students push themselves to the limit.
Community services
Rosey students are privileged. They should share with others, offering their time, imagination and energy. Local initiatives and humanitarian trips to some of the poorest countries are part of their humanist education.
Culture
Adolescents almost automatically come to know the culture of their time, especially its music. It is Rosey’s responsibility to widen their cultural horizons by offering shows, trips, lectures, debates, and opportunities to learn more about various fields, from opera to the culinary arts, from politics to Shakespearian theatre.

Visual arts
A huge choice
Teachers give children the techniques necessary to express their talent in varied fields such as drawing, painting, silk or porcelain work, photography, design, scale model making, 3D printing and sculpture.
Music
Each child is given a taste for music which will accompany them throughout their lives
Rosey students can learn to play an instrument and become a member of the orchestra or one of the classical, jazz or rock instrumental ensembles. They learn to sing in one of the choirs. They put on several regular concerts per year, at the Christmas Concerts, the Gstaad Gala and the End-of-Year fête.
Almost all the standard musical instruments are taught at Le Rosey to prepare students for the music and singing examinations of the Royal Academic of Music, or for the simple pleasure of playing.
Theatre
In French or English
The theatre groups put on three shows a year, in English or in French. These are spectacular shows produced by teachers with professional expertise.
There are regular weekend trips to London and Paris, so that students may attend theatre performances.
Sports
Since the school was founded, sports have held an important place in life at Le Rosey. Sports promote integration in the community, contribute to good health, encourage a spirit of competition, teach fair play and help lead to the development of a well-rounded personality.
Le Rosey is a heaven for sports enthusiasts who can practise a multitude of sports under the supervision of qualified teachers, two hours a day. Le Rosey participates in all inter-school tournaments and, compared to other Swiss schools, our teams win proportionately many more cups and medals than would be expected for school of this size!
In Gstaad, in the winter, under the leadership of qualified monitors, Rosey students make rapid progress in skiing, snowboarding, ice hockey and other snow sports.
The sports of the three terms
Term 1
Football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, horse riding, rugby, cross country, gymnastics and fitness, tennis, swimming, golf, dance, uni-hockey, climbing, shooting.
Term 2 in Gstaad
Ski, ski touring, snowboarding, ice hockey, curling, snow-shoeing and sledging.
Term 3
The same as the first term, plus athletics, beach volleyball and, at Le Rosey’s private nautical centre, sailing, rowing and water-skiing…
Expeditions
Expeditions and unforgettable challenges…
Expeditions give each Rosey student the opportunity for exceptional experiences of the great outdoors and an opportunity to get to know their own strengths and limits better. Safety requirements and security are the order of the day in these highly varied programmes which are provided both in the Lake Geneva area and in the mountains for enjoyable or ambitious explorations and challenges.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is offered at Bronze, Silver or Gold levels to a select group of students. This exciting programme of self-development focuses on independence and autonomy and is highly regarded as a leading youth achievement award. Mid-October cultural trips
These trips are offered each year in the middle of the first term for students to visit countries and cities further afield. This is another opportunity for valuable interactions between students and teachers, as they share new cultural horizons.
Themed weekends…
These weekends are offered throughout the year. They are an opportunity for students to explore the cities of Europe, to attend concerts and theatre performances, to visit museums and exhibitions and to experience the excitement of sports stadiums or grand prix race tracks…
A few destinations…
- Trips to find out more about universities in the USA and the United Kingdom.
- Humanitarian trips to Mali, Romania or India. Introductory trip to the desert.
- Cultural or nature trips to Egypt, Vietnam, Japan, Cuba or Kenya.
Community service
Rosey students are privileged children who must learn to lend a helping hand to those who are less fortunate.
Very close attention is paid to this aspect of their education using community service requirements and the work of the Solidarity Committee, which plays a key role in raising awareness and promoting action to assist the most needy.
Other specific operations are undertaken each year, such as: working trips to participate in the construction of orphanages in Romania and Bulgaria; trips to Rosey-Abantara school in Mali, built thanks to the efforts of Rosey students, where they have worked in our sister school and supervised its pupils; evenings spent in homes for the elderly and hospitals; fund-raising for disaster relief; joint work with parents and alumni for targeted actions.
The Rosey-Abantara school in Bamako, Mali
Since 2003, Rosey students, Rosey parents and the entire Rosey team have worked together to finance and operate our sister school in Bamako. 1500 young Malians are educated there in a beautiful school with good teachers and remarkable facilities.
Our new project: the Rosey Abantara Vocational School
On a recently acquired site adjacent to Rosey-Abantara, we are going to build a hospitality industry and IT vocational school for young people from Bamako who have passed the Baccalaureate. Mali suffers from a lack of skills and leadership in this field and this is a way of offering a professional future of quality to our African friends.
Our goal
To raise one million francs to finance this project over the next two years. By sharing our educational skills, we are being faithful to the fundamental values of Le Rosey: solidarity and respect.

Conferences
Visiting speakers and Le Rosey’s TEDx guests provide students with an original perspective on the most diverse range of topics, from the economy to culture and philosophy to politics and the environment.
Concerts & Plays
Culture is at the heart of Le Rosey and Rosey students are given the exceptional opportunity of hosting the largest orchestras and the most famous performers! Already considered to be one of the best Swiss concert halls, the Rosey Concert Hall has hosted several thousand visitors from all over the world and, naturally, hundreds of Rosey students. We invite you to explore this season’s highly varied programme. To our knowledge, no other school in the world offers such an arts programme to young people!
