16 Nov A Cultural Weekend at Madrid’s Museums
The weekend cultural excursion began with a visit to the Prado Museum in Madrid. Goya’s captivating ‘Black Paintings’ were the primary focus, however, Roséens couldn’t resist immersing themselves in a treasure trove of other masterpieces from Velasquez’s iconic ‘Las Meninas’ to Caravaggio’s compelling works. The next stop was the Thyssen Museum, where Roséens examined Picasso’s reinterpretation of the themes and genres of the Spanish and European artistic tradition.
Sunday’s schedule included visiting the Reina Sofia Museum to view Picasso’s Guernica, which was particularly useful for students in Class T working on their Comparative Study. The museum’s arrangement of preparatory sketches around the walls offered a fascinating glimpse into Picasso’s evolving ideas and compositions for the iconic painting.
