Service Learning – Bees and Biodiversity in Ireland

As part of their Service Learning initiative, a group of Class 2 Roséens journeyed to Cork, Ireland, during Special Week to volunteer their time and effort to aid local environmental organisations in conserving bees and biodiversity in the area.

Roséens participated in three community garden activities to rehabilitate the surrounding wildlife, including removing invasive plant species, recycling waste, and weeding. The group also visited a local beekeeper, where they were given a hands-on demonstration on handling beehives and an opportunity to sample local honey. Additionally, the group learned how to play Gaelic football and hurling, two quintessential Irish sports.

Overall, the trip successfully instilled appreciation and knowledge amongst the students for Irish culture, environmental conservation, and the crucial role bees play in our ecosystem.
