Developing a vaccine with Professor Gilbert at EPFL

Seven students from Classes 1 & T travelled to EPFL to listen to an exciting presentation by Professor Dame Sarah Gilbert, one of the leading scientists behind the Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccination. During her presentation, she gave insight into the development of the vaccine which involved over 200 scientists at record pace. Professor Gilbert was the recipient of the EPFL’s Erna Hamburger Prize for 2021 her outstanding contributions to scientific research and the students were privileged to be amongst a handful of people hearing about the vaccine development first-hand. For the budding scientists in the group, it was inspiring to hear about the work done by Professor Gilbert’s team that has had such a major impact on the world’s population.
