13 Dec Two festive moments at Le Rosey
Tradition is an important part of life at Le Rosey and throughout the school year, we celebrate several events in which the whole school can partake.
The 6th December marked the fête de la saint Nicolas, to announce Christmas and celebration with family. We greeted Saint Nicolas at the entrance to Le Rosey, before he processed up the driveway to the château courtyard accompanied by his entourage of two pères fouettards and a merry band of elves. There, he offered traditional gifts of biscuits, mandarins and peanuts to all the children who had come to see him.
On the 12th December at midday in the dining room, we celebrated the fête de l’Escalade, which pays homage to the fight for independence that Geneva, like many other Swiss cantons, had to endure to defend its freedom. As Mr Gudin declared to the dining room, “Ainsi périssent les ennemis de la République!”, the youngest and eldest at each table smashed the traditional chocolate pot before sharing the sweets and shell with their friends.
