15 Mar Ski touring excursion with Class T bac français students
Class T students are very familiar with Gstaad’s slopes, most having skied them many times over during their studies at Rosey. As we come to the end of the winter term, it therefore felt like the right moment for a new challenge for them, taking a group of Class T bac français students into the untouched snow of the backcountry. After a few enthusiastic exercises to understand all the safety procedures, they descended, flanked by their 2 instructors to draw their turns in fresh snow. No ski lifts in view, only the sun and sparkling untracked snow accompanied by shouts of wonder and enjoyment. Once at the bottom, the real work started to transform skiing into ski-touring: the moment to put the skins on, switch the bindings, open all buckles on the boots and hike back up. After a good ascent, the students skied down to Zweisimmen, discovering canyons and gullies along the way. This experience marked the true meaning of the expression, “earn your turns”, and students loved this back-to-nature session in the snow.
