On 9 May, Rosey students and the public had the chance to attend the latest concert in the Rosey Concert Hall season when the French chamber orchestra Les Dissonances with their soloist David Grimal gave an elegant and spirited peformance of one of the mainstays of the classical repertoire, Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. But they intercut Vivaldi’s seasons with Astor Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, an imaginative tango-inspired reworking of Vivaldi’s idea.  Both works benefited from the juxtaposition. Piazzolla’s modern piece inventively and wittily incorporates phrases and themes from Vivaldi’s masterpiece composed in 18th-century Venice, while Grimal and the orchestra deliberately and interestingly emphasized the dissonance and dynamic variety in the Vivaldi as if inspired by Piazzolla’s evocation of the 20th-century Argentinian city.
